During my junior year of college at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I took an advanced typography course. One of our projects was to create a brand identity for a Unesco world heritage site. I selected the Eisinga Planetarium of the Netherlands, a location that featured the world's oldest functioning planetarium, constructed into the ceiling of a small building. The structural elements of the building are astounding: a meticulously arranged pendulum of wooden beams and pins reside above their ceiling that function to replicate the accurate position of the planets in real time, all hidden conveniently out of view. Golden sphere hang from the ceiling, marking the position of these known plants in the night sky. I sought to emphasize this detail and form through my main typeface, Pentz Regular. Pentz felt elegant, yet creative; the right mix of ornate and structured. From Pentz, I derived the supporting typefaces and main logo designs. The color palettes resemble that of the beautifully painted planetarium ceiling. This was undoubtedly one of my favorite projects while at university, and I felt I grew extensively in my typography skills.
